Tomorrow is my first Canadian Thanksgiving as a Canadian citizen! I’m certainly thankful to be part of a country with an intelligent, thoughtful leader. But there’s more! Somehow, I’d missed out on narwhals until now… I must have been sick that day in class! But one of the last pages of the Canadian passport features narwhals (see below)—one of the many bonuses of becoming Canadian.
I’m also very thankful for—and never take for granted—the band, GEORGE, along with the special people who make it what it is: Anna Webber, Chiquita Magic, and Sarah Rossy.
We’re heading to the West Coast next week. Maybe we’ll see you, or some of your friends, along the way!
GEORGE is:
Anna Webber-tenor sax/flute
Sarah Rossy-voice/synth
Chiquita Magic-synths/voice
John Hollenbeck-drums/composition

We’re also doing some school workshops at Clovis West High School in Fresno (Oct. 14th-am), CSUN (Cal State Northridge) (Oct. 14th-pm), and Capilano University in Vancouver (Oct. 19th-am).
When we are in Seattle we will record an in-studio performance at KEXP for their excellent series!
If you can’t catch us in person, we finally have some great videos to share, including live performances from the Montréal Jazz Festival, courtesy of Evan Shay.

As someone who’s inundated with emails, as I’m sure most of you are, I’ll keep this short and add just one more thing: DON’T FORGET TO VOTE!
On that subject, but with much less significance, if you happen to be a NARAS voting member, GEORGE’s new record, Looking for Consonance, is under consideration for nomination in the Alternative Jazz category. My latest large ensemble album, Peace and Justice, is also under consideration for nomination in the Jazz Large Ensemble category.
Stay strong,
John the Canadian
